the temple of Luxor Columns and Ramses II.-Statuen

After the aforementioned Galapscha-evening, I’m feeling bad. Already before an uneasy feeling made me drinking tea. First I believed, that I have drunken something cold too fast in Aswan. But fever, vomiting and diarrhoea clearly declare the salad I had the day before for the main offender. Meanwhile we know: never eat green salad without pouring lemon juice over it or rather disinfect it. At least, the two nice reception boys gave Annette some quite effective pills as she was searching for water in the middle of the night (at that time, the mini bar was already cleared off by the staff ).

Statue of Ramses II. Obelisk of the Hatschepsut before the first pylon of the temple

Enough of wailing! We are back in Luxor. On no account we want to miss the chance of a visit of the temple. Even before the huge entrance-pylon we arrived the obelisk Ramses II.
Originally there were two obelisks, but the other one was carried to the Place de la Concorde in Paris by the French in 1836, where it stands exactly on the axis between the Louvre and the Triumphal Arch. However, the two sitting statues of Ramses are preserved. Ramses II also had the pylon behind erected and decorated with portrayals of the battle of Kadesch. According to the legend, Ramses, let down by his soldiers, put the Hethiters to flight sole with the help of his divine father Amun.

Lotos columns Mosque of Abu-I-Haggag

In the first court, all glances are directed upwards. Today, only with a five-meter-long ladder you could reach the mosque Abu el-Haggag. Since that was the height, the temple was covered with sand and dust, while above these old ruins the construction continued. Below there is a former Coptic church which became the grave of Yusuf Abu el-Haggag in 1243.

Sphinx avenue to Karnak First pylon of Ramses II.

Through a corridor with 14 papyrus columns, we arrive the second court. It was build at the time of Amenophis III and is connected with two rows of papyrus clustered piers on three sides. Only in 1989 several statues of Pharaoh ship, Sphinx and Gods were found here in three meter of depth during restoration works and can now be seen in the Museum of Luxor.

Relief and still a memory of Ramses II.
