Early in the next morning we awake because of the sound of motors. Nil upstream we get along very slowly, but back to Luxor we need one day. But before the SHIP Solaris lands in Kom Ombo. About 8 o'clock we start to the ruins of the twin-temple for Sobek, the Crocodile-God, and Haroeris (Horus the big).

Altar of the falcon-headed Horus Temple in Kom Ombo

From the ship-landing-place there are only a few meters to the temple. In doing so, we come certainly again through the obligatory street of souvenirs and clothes, others want to buy us ice cream. Altogether the dealers are here less brashy as on many other touristic sightings and all appears to be tidy and cheerful. To the left and right side there are hedges and big bushes, above all triple-flowers (Bougainvillea).

Sobek and Isis Altar of Haroeris

The temple of Kom Ombo is the only one, which is attended to two Gods. Accordingly there are two entries, back to them two parallel-walks through the column-room lead to both sanctuaries (the inner sanctum) with black granite altars. En route we come to numerous, wondrous well-preserved reliefs, which show (once more) the Pharaoh by the sacrifice act, the cult-picture of the Crocodile-God Sobek, a calendar with the order of different actions during the seasons and much more.

Nile-Level - there it goes deeply under it Column in the double temple

Here is a Nilometer like on Elephantine, but it has no connection to the Nile anymore. “The water you can see is groundwater”, explains our tour guide. Till now you can see here many small crocodiles in a small area. They were also admired in the temples like Sobek to disarm their free living fellows. After death they got mummified. Bigger ones can be seen in the National museum in Cairo.
