“Unfortunately you have to drive with the public bus to Cairo, but don’t be scared, we bring you to the bus stop. The bus is very good and with climate. And when you arrive in Cairo, we are immediately with you.” “Oh”, I am thinking, when Samir from Simsim-Travelling is also explaining the cause: “ The big travel organizations have achieved with a law that only they are allowed to drive from Hurghada to Cairo and Luxor.” Into the other direction it would be no problem. A really nice law, like also the Egyptians noticed. “ The law will be abolished , because many people became unemployed”, Samir explains. At the Moment you still need a special permit.

I must admit that we felt a little queasy. What did the agent of Eagle-Travels say? “We never let our people down. ”Samir called us again four hours before we wanted to start: “We have got the permission.” We think: “Yippee!” but we are not able to sleep any more. Never mind. We are fetched by a little bus at 2 o’clock in the night - two drivers, very much room and a cool bag full of iced beverages. We first went to the starting point of the convoy and then to Cairo – in a very comfortable way.

Samir doesn’t come with us himself but he calls the driver at a few kilometres before we arrived in Cairo to ask if everything is OK. “Once I had a driver who always said that all the people were asleep.”, he told us. He was astonished about that. But in reality the driver did not fetch the clients and wanted to have all the money himself. Something like that mustn’t happen again. We shouldn’t pay the tour until we were back in Hurghada.

After a short time our tour guide came on board. The Egypt museum is the first point on the program. Unfortunately it is not allowed to photograph in the museum. But he takes only care of us so that he guides us absolutely genial through many rooms, asks for things which are more interesting for us and he always finds to the right moment a glass cupboard that is not surrounded by a large group. Finally we had enough time to have a look at a few animal mummies. But he advices us against to buy something in the souvenir shop that is directly in the museum, because of the high costs caused by the high leasing.
