Palms and souvenirs in Memphis Memphis

It is not much left over of Memphis, the first capital of the Egyptians. Today the former economic centre over many dynasties is just a point on the map south of Cairo and so you can see only a few statues and steles in the museum of Memphis.

Statue Ramses II.

A proud (roofed) Ramses statue is one of the most imposing one. In contrast to Ramses II., who reached with 90 years a high age for that time, the statue shines still a friendly and youthful appearance.

Statue Ramses II. in Memphis

Beside this 10,5 m high statue, in Memphis there is a sphinx in alabaster and a Apries-decree, that is eternalized on a stele and that tells about land grant and tax exemption for the Ptah-temple. By the way the Apis-bull, the animals from the admired god Ptah in Memphis, were embalmed over the street. But you also can not identify a lot.

and we also are there
