Guest book

After our bad memories of our first night at the Safir hotel, the staff surprised us with a nice telegram of "hills and sea" after our crusade. Then the staff brought us to our rooms without delay. After our long journey by bus from Luxor to the Red Sea this is very relaxing. But I do not expect such an extra treatment and I do not think it is fair towards our travel companions.

Suite in the Safir

The Safir (Sapphire) has a beautiful garden – which is protected by the sides of the hotel – with a pool and of course a bar too. However, if you like to go for a walk on the beach, you picked the wrong hotel, because there is nearly no freedom of movement at the water. But maybe this is necessary, because whereas predominantly Russian woman like to lay topless in the blazing sun at the hotel, Egyptian woman veil there self in black gown on public beaches. A contrast that hardly can’t be bigger.

fruits as compliment

At the sight of our rooms we are very happy that they are not as tiny as the ones in the first night. The roomy balcony gives a wonderful view over the inlet of the hotel, two landing places and the neighbouring public bay. On a small table a plate full fruits is awaiting us. Finally, the safe shows that we have got a suite, because there is no safe in "normal" rooms.

Hotel of Safir - bay and beach

On account of the two landing stages, swimming in the sea is mostly off and you can’t even think of going snorkelling. So you have no other choice than reading your holiday-book very calmly on the sun beds, which are at least comfortable, but according to the noisy entertainment, you enjoy less peace than you’d like to have.
It is also even more annoying, that the entertainment officers try to convince you of taking part in some actions for which you have to pay additionally. That’s why the henna-guy felt insulted as we still did not want to have a tattoo on the third day. However, Annette allowed herself to have a massage, which was on no account cheaper than in Waldshut-Tiengen.

The restaurant is really bad and it surely has not served its four stars. The buffet is mingy and unvaried. Fresh fruits are rare - in the mornings as well as in the evenings - or even not available. In one week there was only twice fish - and it was so badly prepared, that we set it aside. For a country, where everything grows, for a fishing village next to the sea: just an evidence of incapacity.

An evidence of incapacity is also the service. Because we did not account all inclusive (it really is not worthwhile) we had to receipt the drinks. Because we did not take a pen for dinner, the waiter had a go on us first of all. A recurring problem, though he had already noted the order.
I also considered it inappropriate that our waiter (wearing a marine suit) made hackneyed jokes, not being serious and so being awkward. The false mask fell down when one of the group made an obviously not seriously meant comment and the waiter all of a sudden started to be angry. By the way: the same with the chef when we judge the restaurant only with "good" on the allotted questionnaire (there they had pens again). Annettte will describe the Safir a lot more detailed on the next page. To get straight to the point: It was not at all a pleasure for her.
