Waterberg

Siedlung in einer Bergbauregion
Bergbausiedlung

Actually, Windhoak is only 280 kilometers far away from the Epako Game Lodge. But firstly, our trip leads us on the C33 to the North again, through the chalk field, passing an old miners’ settlement and to Otjiwarongo, soon the B1 and C22 to the Waterberg Plateau. If the circuit way will be profitable? Maybe. Eventually, there are some beautiful hiking trails on the plateau. But already at the start of the trip, we are sure that there will be only time for the shortest of the routes.

Really: We are disappointed, when we can only look around for 30 minutes on half of the mountain’s height after the arrival and long latency on the access to the Waterberg Plateau. What can we do at all? If there is a worthwhile hiking trail? We don’t know and we don’t find out. Sidney only tells us that one year ago, the lodge right here has been reached from mountain and sea (and that we can walk around here and there).

So a few out of our party only manage to reach one of the desolate bungalows, where they stay most of the 30 minutes. A few metres away, we find a place where we have at least free outlook to the lowlands beneath the Waterberg Plateau. Otherwise, there is only the possibility of walking along one of the paths leading to the plateau until you reach a water tower. After we’ve climbed it up to take a few photos, we have to go back to the bus. What a bummer, because we see that up here you can definitely spend a few hours with hiking.
