Swakopmund-Hotel

In former times the Swakopmund Hotel was the station of the growing German colonial city. As the Namibian people go rarely by train, however, the station was rebuilt into a hotel later. We sleep in a railway mission so to say. And what a mission! The hotel is the best address next to the seaside resort. We think it is very nice that the leaves of the building and the wing with the majority of the rooms are constructed in the style of the station building.

The pool is very beautiful, too. It wasn’t opened because of painting works the first day and the second day the water was too cold for having a bath but it awards the courtyard an agreeable mood. A couple of steps further a restaurant asked for staying in it. There was a lot of space for various guests but because of the rambling there isn’t any feeling of too much largeness.

It wasn’t our plan to eat there but the brewery was fully booked the first evening so we had to eat anywhere else. It wasn’t a difficult decision where to eat because the buffet’s choice was great. Besides many sorts of meat there was a lot of fish, shrimps, mussels, meat of cancer, many sorts of vegetables, side dishes and there was also a big choice of delicious desserts plus fruits. You need time, but waiting is profitable. Furthermore, you only had to give a little advice and the labour shifted the air conditioner warmer which was a bit too cold.

our room

Our room is just great. Or is it a suite? It isn’t easy to say. In the room there are many things for us: a cup of fruits, different chocolate candies, a glass of nuts, a small bottle of red vine and an interesting but not very tasty choice of dried meat. Why is there only one glass for two persons but three of any other things? No idea, but we don’t have to argue about it.

It is very funny that there is a second door which directly leads to the courtyard next to the hotel’s entry. In other words: You needn’t to go many steps to reach the garden or to go to breakfast/lunch.
It is a pity that we don’t get an adapter for the outlet. But later on we recognize that we do not need one because you only have to rotate the connector in the outlet next to the washbasin to charge the batteries. While charging we lie in the comfortable bed and snuggle with each other.
