Sossusvlei - big loam-depression

on the way to the salt pan
about a fine-sandy runway the way leads to the salt pan

Back in the bus, we eat up our packed lunch. And – we can’t believe it – it really is a useable packed lunch. The buns are filled already, the fruits aren’t – as usual – cutted into dripping pieces and we can drink the juice (peach) during the drive without problems or mess.

Dunes of Sossusvlei
the vegetation manages to grab one of the dunes

Driving directly to our aim is impossible. The last kilometres lead over soft sandy ground, which are even problematic for 4-wheel-driven Jeeps. We are glad about this fact. Driving through the landscape in an open all-terrain-vehicle is much more beautiful than sitting in the bus the whole time.

On our way, the route branches out a few times. Signs warn against the very soft ground with the inscription “Soft Path”. But even the drive on the more solid route isn’t really safe. The Jeep drifts to the side again and again and the numerous potholes give us a good shaking. However, the fair wind and the view are gorgeous.

Annette feels fine...
... the tree however less...
... but to me it goes well.
