Otijikoto Lake - the almost round lake

Eland (Taurotragus oryx)
Antilope

One should not malign about others. No, one does not have to do it! In the end, it can meet you faster than one means. Nevertheless, on the other hand ... so I am surprised, when we get out next to an enclosure with Elands (eland antelopes) and two women disappear immediately behind the bus, while others of the group the street walk. Sydney answers to further inquiry: “Yes, you can walk. There are only about 40 metres up to the next destination. ” And yes, of course there are there toilets.

After a little while we some to the Otjikoto lake, almost perfectly circular lake, how it means. It has originated from the break-in of a gigantic Dolomit cave. In 1851 the lake should have been 55 metres deep. Because the lake of the water supply of Tsumeb serves, today there are only 36 metres at the deepest place. For it swim a lot of Talapia fish in the lake which have been put out in the 1930s in the lake.

Coming in the upper edge of the lake, the water looks really tempting. If I can present myself, nevertheless, well to swim during a hot summer day by the turquoise-coloured water - or to jump immediately from a suitable place from above in. However, care! In 1927 there drowned here the postmaster of Tsumeb, Johannes Cook. Because one of him never again some discovered, one supposes that there are strong eddies in the body of water. Nevertheless, so we rather look the cacti on the shore, before we give a short visit on the associated animal enclosure.
