Kuiseb-Canyon |

In contrast to the Fish River and Sesriem, the Kuiseb-Canyon is not a “real” canyon. On our trip we get to know that the name was given by the San who have the same word (canyon) for different types of landscapes. Canyon can also mean valley.
During our trip we pass a hilly landscape which gives us impressions of extensive cambers and valleys. In addition we see two Kudus which are standing only few metres away from the street. Wow! A fact that we haven't expected to see at all!

Finally Jayjay stops the bus on a hill. It is windy. Or better said: stormy!!! Nevertheless we dare to have a look on the beauty and wideness of Namibia.
What we don't know: While we are standing above the Kuisebs, a storm from the East carries tons of dust and sand from the dessert to Swakopmund.

Once the barren landscape at Kuisib gave asylum to the geologists Henno Martin and Hermann Korn. Both refused to take part in the genocide initiated by the fascists.
They moved to Kuisib in order to be safe from persecution and fled when they should be detained. But when the Kuiseb at Carp Cliff dried up 2,5 years later they had to flee again and seek for a new asylum.
