Vingerklip |
On our way back from the Petrified Forest we take the C35 and, to Khorixas, the D2743 to Vingerklip. Recording to our guide this 85 meters high rock resembles a bit he Mukurub (Finger of God) which stood in the South of Namibia. Whereas Mukurub went to pieces in the year 1988, the Vingerklip still stands. But you can see already the place were the stone would burst. Not at last because of this it is forbidden to climb the rock. But there are two paths which are leading to the basis of the Vingerklip.

And those two paths are really striking. They are not striking because they would be very steep but the thing that makes it very difficult to walk on them is that the ground is very slippery, and covered with gravel and dust. Some persons of our group slipped out or even fell on the ground. Furthermore the heat causes that one begins to sweat and that the concentration fades, which is all not quite good if one wants to walk on a dangerous path.

But the way up is it worth to be gone. Once arrived at the Vingerklip we had a fabulous view of the Tabel Mountain of the Ugab-Valley. A bit below the termite hill we recognize a lodge, the Vingerklip-Lodge, which offers its guest a fabulous view of the Ugab-Valley, which was a former time well watered.
But we have to go on and we stop only beside one of the numerous termite hill. There we have to pay attention again: „If one of the hills is open there can be a snake in it“, Sydney explains.
