Sundown in the Kalahari |

To a journey to the Kalahari and the red dunes belongs a sundown, of course. That calls for a drink! The people from the Lodge need just a short time to build up their “Sundowner-Bar” on the top of a dune. In fact, beer, wine, simple longdrinks and hard liquor are very popular with our group. We, ourselves, enjoy a namibic white whine. Not until we hold it in our hands, we realize that it could compete against the pool of the lodge. To say: The whine is ice cold. So it is no use that we took warm clothes with us.

Little later the sun sinks gradually and makes the sand glow blazing red. When it almost touches the horizon, every blade of grass and every little uneveness cast a cloud over the dune. The landscape was nice before, but now it’s fantastic. Sure, that this moment has to be captured! Everywhere the cams are handed round so that everyone is in the picture with his partner.

During winter the sun in Namibia sinks in a quite sharp angle, so that everyone has enough time to enjoy this moment. However, it is pitch dark at 17.45. Furthermore there is enough time to fill a bottle with Kalahari sand and to get to know other people. Then we return through the quickly cooler turning air to the lodge. Fortunately everyone gets a blanket. Apart from the cold airflow we are also frozen to the marrow because of the “Namibic Ice Whine”.
