Hammerstein Restcamp

A free time afternoon? Well, even without the 200km long wild hoarse – detour, we arrive just after 4pm at Hammerstein Lodge. In other words: about one and a half hours before sunset. Therefore, we wait quite impatiently for our room key. At least, we absolutely want to see the red cats and cheetahs, which the Lodge was advertising.

On the way to our room, Annette discovers one of the red cats (Caraca). With her blue eyes, she follows us distrustfully and in our hurry, we can’t attract her. That doesn’t matter. Having arrived in our room, we throw our hand luggage on the bed and leave the room again immediately. (and return a few minutes later to bring the suitcases in, too)

in the evening there is music

a drum is often enough to the rhythmical company

The Hammerstein Lodge per se can definitely not compete with the Anib Lodge in the Kalahari or the Canyon Lodge at Fish River. The rooms are smaller, the foyer is arranged less lovely and the two dining-halls aren’t installed as comfortable as the rooms of the first two Lodges. Therefore, a fellow traveller remarks, that the Lodges are getting worse from know on, because a friend told her so.

As measured by the price of the journey, I can’t see a reason to complain. And I don’t even recognize that the bed-covers are a bit shabby. But well the coldness (again). Thus, I search after a place directly next to the heating later, when we eat. I like it that the employees try to entertain the guests a bit while they are eating. But before all this, let’s go to the cheetahs.
