Etosha National Park

The nice thing about Mokuti Lodge is that it is located near the east entry of the park.
It is both near to Etosha and only half an hour drive away from Namutoni. We decide to pay Namutoni a visit. After the first police post was established in 1897, the first fort was created in 1903.

A year later the Germans moved almost the whole troop, consisting of 150 men including officials, into the south, to control the Hereros.
Although the Ovambo weren’t really close to the Hereros, they helped to defend the fort with 500 soldiers, weapons and ladders.
This was due to the rumour, that their cattle were going to be shot.

The four left soldiers and the three farmers who managed to escape the Herero succeeded in defending themselves and, after the Ovambo moved back, they were able to leave Tsumeb. The next day, the Fort was burnt down by the Ovambos. Between 1905 and 1907 the Germans built the second fort. When we were there, reconstruction and renovation works were going on. That meant that we couldn’t visit it.

The nice thing is that on our third drive during the park we managed to see everything and take photos of the important scenes.
We see all the animals, one special thing that we observed: a female lion with its kitten.
Wow. We didn’t expect that at all! What a nice surprise.
There is also a giraffe observing the lion? Will there be a fight? Both of them could win!

Over and over again the great animal stops, giraffe and lioness observe themselves mutually. Whether is there a fight? Since not only a lion can tear a giraffe, also the giraffe can kill a lion with its immense step on the skull. The situation remains tense for several minutes. Everything we sit there. What will happen? Obviously the lioness has no interest to compete against the great animal. And the giraffe? No, of course also not. It has a tree as a destination in which it helps itself a little later in all care.
