Moringa Waterhole

In the afternoon, we arrive at Camp Halali. We leave out the meal; instead we walk to Moringa Waterhole. It’s a bit far but after the long bus journey it’s certainly not incorrect to walk along the promenade.
The last 200 metres are barred for vehicles (fortunately), so there is no longer the noise of the motors. There’s only one group of Italians which is talking a lot on the way to the viewing platform till finally their tour guide admonishes them to be quiet.

Arrived on the top, we first see some springboks near the waterhole. For that, it’s really quiet at this place, although there are some other visitors besides us. But we get requited. First a little bird, a short-toed Rock Thrush, shows itself from all sides, afterwards a flock of zebras arrives at the standpipe. They always walk only some steps, than they rest on a place and check the circumstances. They certainly scent us. But the dangers they’re searching for are others.

However, we see first two and later four warthogs trotting totally carefree through the thicket to the water. If they know that there’s no danger for them at this place? Or do they pin their hopes on their speed and that lions which eventually pass will jump at one of the bigger animals first?

Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros)

After the zebras (as they’re just standing around for a long time, you can quite simply forget them) there arrives a flock of Impala Antelopes at Moringa Waterhole - and two Kudu Bulls, the most beautiful ones, which we see on our whole journey through Namibia. There are also the squirrels, running around at the boarders of the viewing platform, drinking from the aqueduct above the waterhole or vanishing in one of the many little caves.
