Antelopes in Etosha National Park

South African cow's antelopes
there it probably itches somebody

To be honest: When we read at home how many types of antelopes there are in Namibia I didn’t think we would be able to differentiate between them. The Oryx, sure. The gnus can easily be set apart from the others, too, with the help of books. But there were other species of which I only knew the size and the weight.

Impala

Indeed watching them one besides the other it isn’t too hard to decide whether an impala or a dark-coloured red hartebeest from the south of Africa is running towards you.
After all those miles through the countryside we are familiar with the springboks anyway and after some time we could even recognize the smaller ibex.
Only the damara dikdik can not be found that easily. That’s mainly because it is the smallest antelope (only 38 centimetres high) and weighs but five kilogram so that it can hide behind any bushes.

Who isn’t satisfied by this selection of antelopes (beside the kudus) can find other species in the lodges, for example the bontebok that we saw in Mokuti Lodge, as well as waterbucks, bushbucks and elands that also live in Ethosha.
