Canyon Lodge

When we arrive in the canyon lodge it is pitch dark. But as compensation the acceptance is affectionate and after the welcome-drink we first get some information about the hotel – for example, there's a big rock integrated into the bar – and after that we get our room key. The staff has current adapters ready, too. Unfortunately, neither our connectors nor the established travel adapters fit into the power outlets.

We eat in the canyon lodge a la buffet. That means, not completely. The starter and the dessert are served to the table. The buffet is built up in the next room of the restaurant and offers besides beef, lamb and vegetables fried ostrich filets. Delicious!

Entrance in the restaurant

As it can turn very cold in the south east of Namibia, two chimneys in the beautifully arranged restaurant provide comfortable warmth. How cool it can turn, we get to feel the next morning, when we set off to a rock near the lodge a long time before sunrise.
Already when we leave our room, the cold air engulfed us. Besides pullovers and vests you absolutely had to wear long trousers. Moreover, we wish to have brought gloves with us to Africa after a few metres. Only the slippery path, which leads us over a lower section to the other side of the rock, detracts us from the cold.

Arrived on top, we want to enjoy the sunrise. Unfortunately vain. On the one hand, there is still a higher mountain, over which the sun has to climb, on the other hand there aren't absolutely any clouds at the sky, which could be coloured orange-red.
When we climb down again, we get to the pool and can't believe our eyes: The little sward next to the basin is covered white because of the glazed frost!
Later we get to know, that two jeeps in front of the lodge have also frozen front shields.
