Anib Lodge

Garden of Anib Lodge
Pool of Anib Lodge

We arrive at Anib Lodge, situated at the edge of the Kalahari, in the early hours of the afternoon. As the bus parks close to our room and we still have a bit of time until our first activity organized for the day, we decide to collect our luggage ourselves. And in a flash we are dressed in our bathing suits. Unfortunately, it was not possible to really enjoy ourselves in the swimming pool of the lodge as the water was freezing cold despite the relatively warm temperature outside. Due to this we only managed to get in up to our knees and indulged in a “Kneipp-treatment”. After all, it is winter in Namibia.

Instead of enjoying the heat of a Namibian summer we could however lounge around in a hammock all day or stroll around in the garden of the lodge with its many cactuses and quiver trees (Afrikaans: Kokerbooms). We also highly enjoyed watching the little birds peeping out of the weaver bird nest that was hanging only a few steps outside our room.

Leaving the complex, we soon come across a group of guinea fowls. They first appear to be fenced up, but as we come closer they suddenly disappear into the Kalahari and are soon entirely out of sight. Only a few meters further we are also given chance of watching a couple of ground squirrels which unfortunately, prefer refuse to come close to us too.

Upon arrival Sydney had already asked us if we ate meat. After the unanimous “yes” he greeted us with a “Herzlich willkommen in Namibia”. Rightly so, for that evening we were to be served a dinner of Springbok and Oryx antelope. Both very tasty by the way, as the game here is as sour as our venison at home. Very amusing was the fact that the staff of the lodge not only recited the menu to us in German and English, but also in their “Click”-language.
Before our dinner however, we go on safari into the Kalahari
