On the way to Tilarán streets are in good condition but they get worse and worse when you leave Dos de Tilaran and travel towards Santa Elena. That’s what our travel book tells: when it isn’t raining you can go by bike. The landscape is so beautiful that we forget about the bad condition of the street. “That’s the Teletubbie Park, isn’t it?”, said Annette. (No, of course no one of us did watch this programme.)
However, the official street is not at all as bad as the access road to “Arenal Oasis”. If you don’t notice this fact, you must have missed a side road. We’re lucky because as we’re on the wrong track a waving grandmother yells: “No, no, no!” because we’re right on the way to a field of hers. The second time we don’t find our way, a sales assistant of a small shop helps us find back to the right way. Till the end of our journey, we won’t lose our way anymore.
You must not miss the coffee plantation in the highlands! The high, isolated shadow trees, the hillside and the fantastic setting of the mountain form a dream idyll. In case your wife acts as if she were a tea-picker in order to earn some tip, don’t hesitate but give it to her. Not later than when she wants to return or reach the street at the top, she will return it (-:
