Snorkel trip to the island

the boat is brought into the water near Samara
Trip to the offshore island

At the second morning we undertake a snorkel excursion to the island. For this purpose we could paddle with the sea kayak across. We decide on the more convenient alternative and we help to bring the boat into the water-and besides ladle aplenty water out of the boat. As only still little slops stand in the boat, we have to wait for the right wave. Several times our Tico lets the boat repulse again. Then finally we set sail and we chug jovially across the ocean.

Beach and rocky coast of the island

After a quarter of an hour (and occasional our driver ladles water out of the boat) we arrive the island. The landing is not possible because of the stones in the water and the swell. But the water temperature is short under 30 degree Celsius so it is not a problem. Rather the walk over the beach. Because although it is morning the sand in the sun is already strong heated.

Iguana
Annette is happy ...
... and the crabs are also due to the melon.

After we have found a shady place (there is just one), we see that the hill moves and little stones tumble down.
There are Iguanas, that flit over the hills. They are not scared. In contrary, because the boat dwellers throw pieces of pineapple to them, the animals are coming from everywhere. But also the hermit crabs are waiting. They get the peelings of the water melons, which we are enjoying. We think, it’s much nicer than the tours, which involve only drinking since morning. We are not disturbed of the crab, which is taking a sliced piece.

Boxfish at Samara
another fish

The island and the view to the bay of Samara are beautiful, but there are better places to skin-dive like Félicité or Grand Soeur (Seychelles). Because of the stones it’s difficult with the fins to get into deeper water, the view is dull and the waves sloshes us back and forth. Watching fishes is possible. But when we are trying to show them each other, the are usually already somewhere else. Because of this the first use of my underwater camera is not profitable. Well, maybe the next time. At least, our new water resistant T-shirts are reinforcing.
