Selvatura Reserve

In order to get to Selvatura Reservation we have to leave Santa Elena again. On our map we can see that it is again a pebbly road, in Costa Rica also known as Dirtroad. The mean thing about these roads is that they are only fixed sporadically. This means that a truck loads scree material into the biggest holes and the following traffic attaches it. It doesn’t look nice and the fine material is also carried away by the next rain and only big stones will be left.

But wherefore do we have an all-wheel-jeep? So keep your eyes open, hold on and try to avoid as many potholes as possible! After all you won’t have such experiences every days. But at least, there are enough signposts, so that we neither got lost on the way to the office of Selvatura, nor on the way to the reservation which is 3 km higher.

The Selvatura Reservation is well developed. Next to the restaurant, the reception and the sanitary facilities, they also offer canopy tours and they have a hummingbird and butterfly garden, an exhibition of insects, reptiles and amphibians as well as guided tours through the dusty forest. But we decided to make use of the good and arid weather and so we risked going on a tour with eight suspension bridges.
