Travelogue Costa Rica

Santa Helena

„Hey look! There is also a street in front of us!“ I can’t believe it. But, as a matter of fact, as we drive into Santa Elena, there are normal streets again.
In contrast to when the iron sheet was shaking, dangling and rattling, it’s now as quite as if the ground we pass was cotton. The streets in Santa Elena are, of course, streets which you also find at home. Nevertheless, after travelling this long so uncomfortably, these asphalt streets create a fantastic feeling!

Moreover, these streets that are in bad condition still have an advantage: the area is rarely visited and crowded by tourists. As a result, there are people up here but we don’t feel like we were in a ghetto of tourists. Anyway, most tourists prefer having action, so we’re lucky! What really is popular among the tourists, are the Canopy tours. Well secured, you rush down into the depth, with your feet ahead, along a wire rope.

We are very happy that there are nice shops, restaurants and even a gas station around because other ways we would end up here. Now we look forward to having dinner in the nice tree house the second night (actually we wanted to go there the first night but you have to make a reservation to get a seat) and to experience the foggy rainforest Monteverde. But first we visit a private reservation called Selvatura.
