The next morning we rise early and look forward for a second time about the many birds at breakfast, before we check out. What is going fast because we had to pay the dinner in cash the evening meal, and because we had a voucher for the room. So there is nothing left to pay.
Taking the gravel path back to the main road, it doesn’t take long until we reach the coati playground. Here, the image is propably the same every morning. A group of coatis scuttle to the street, the first car stops, the traffic breaks down.
Then the way is the aim. Indeed, linear distance it is just a few kilometres from La Fortuna to Santa Elena, our next stage. But there is no direct connection. So we have to drive around the Aral Sea, before going to Tilaran on the other side first and then up in the mountains.
But the track is worth it. Thus, the little-used road around the lake wriggles beautifully trough the tropic forest during the first kilometres, will it passes directly along the lake offering some gorgeous views over the lake on the last 15 kilometres.
By the way, a delicious surprise is the German Bakery in Nuevo Arenal. Besides some bread and bread rolls, as well croissants and takes there are filled filo pastry. If you don’t want to pick the goods up to the car, you can deign yourself a second breakfast in the café. What we don’t advise is to take a bar of chocolate into the car. Although there is air condition, it is liquid pretty soon.
