Rainforest at the Caribbean coast

Ride through the canals of Tortuguero
The plants are reflected in dark water

One day or even one week at the Caribbean coast without rain? It’s possible that it happens- but we had once a day shower of the rain- and we were very lucky! Even at the drive to the lodge, at the boat touring and the driving back were dry.

Even at the tours or walks we had outside the group, we have to suffer only small showers over us. However, it’s a little bit frustrating to wake up at night only to see that it rains and rains and doesn’t stop - and will not change until the breakfast.

Darter sunbathing

But we learn a lot from the water: On the one hand we were right to take a breathable, easy jacket with us. And at the other hand there is a big advantage to put the clothes in a lot of different, small bags.

After e few days everything feels numb and it’s hard to distinguish between the worn and
the new T-shirts. Another advantage would be rubber shoes, that the natives prefer to wear.

The rain brings one advantage: There are far less tourists here than at the Pacific and so we are able to paddle through the park all by ourselves. There are no streets to Tortuguero and the Lodges in the National Park and so we can make sure that we won’t end up on an isolated island.  And there are these birds that spread their wings so that sun dries their wings.  They not even fly away at the sight of a big boat.
