La Fortuna

Volcano Arenal
leaf-cutting ant at La Fortuna

La Fortuna or right Fortuna de San Carlos is the most important starting point for tours to the volcano Arenal. Beside some hotels, restaurants and travel agencies there are stores, chemist's shops and cash machines in the city. To find these without problems the complete main street is hung over with posters. Finding exactly what you need is just a matter of luck. The worse is that one part of the main street is a one-way road. Who drives from the direction of the vulcano in the city notices this by the waving storekeepers... Nevertheless this doesn't disturb the oncoming traffic, because here one is familiar to such drivers.

Dirtroad to the waterfall

Beside guided tours to the vulcano, above all, rides and quad tours are offered at Fortuna. But also Canopy tours (this is like a Flying Fox, with the difference that it goes of a tree top to the next) and footpaths over suspension bridges are offered. But it is more beautiful to relax in the evening in one of the hot springs and collect power for the next day. At the same time it should be possible to observe the volcanic activities. When he properly breaks out or a pyroclastic cloud rushes in the valley, you better not sit in the Tabacon. Because this is located in the highest danger zone of the vulcano in which also may not be built any more – completely apart from the fact that it is overcharged anyhow.

with the quad over hill and dale
with the horse it is not so loud
$ 10, only to have a waterfall, is plenty of outrageously

Cascada La Fortuna is also far too expensive. The distance between the Oasis vulcan and the waterfall only adds up to 2.5 kilometres and is a popular destination for tourists.
As the waterfall belongs to a private territory, we have to pay 10 USD. Is this worth it considering that we only look at it for a few minutes and maybe jump into the water? We don’t believe so. The price is much too high - anyway there are a lot more waterfalls in Costa Rica.
