After two and a half weeks it was time to say good-bye to Costa Rica. We were really lucky because we left Quepos without any defect.
After that our way leads us along the Pacific first and later over the mountains back to San Jose. As we have plenty of time we stop at Rio Tarcoles in between and look at the crocodiles from a secure distance (one after another).
What did we like the most? That’s not so easy. Surely we won’t forget about our tour with the rowing boat near Tortuguero. Well, we also won’t forget about the shower at Poas-Volcano, but this fact doesn’t really have pleasant reasons. Unexpectedly beautiful were the suspension bridges from Selvatura as we didn’t meet many people. But also the car journey around the Arenal-Lake in Monteverde definitely was a highlight on our journey through Costa Rica.
But in spite of this I personally was impressed the most by the national park Rincon de la Vieja. The tour that leads past the waterfall of River Colorado to the mud holes and mini-volcanos and also the change from forest to open countryside offers a change like no other trail, that we’ve walked so far. The storms on the second day can therefore only mean that we will definitely visit Rincon again if we travel to Costa Rica one more time.
The Ticos were quite friendly and always ready to help in case we lost our way.
We never felt insecure in tourist areas because the local people never obtruded us in any case though we read about Costa Rica being a risky country. Nevertheless you have to watch your personal belongings.
Furthermore we had to realise that 18 days are by far not enough to explore all important sights that can be found in the little country of Costa Rica. That has several reasons: First of all Costa Rica provides various different landscapes that are all very beautiful and secondly the weather is not constant which means that there are some days where here is nothing but rain. That means you don’t have many possibilities to organise your day. But don’t worry about that. Just try and make your own experience. You will definitely explore a lot!
