In the afternoon we start off to the Spirogyra- Butterfly Garden. In fact, this one is the smallest one in the central valley, but approachable on foot very easily. Well, at least if your hotel is situated in the centre of San Jose. So we have to walk only seven blocks from the Gran Hotel along the Calle 3, until we turn right in the Avenida 13 and then to the left across the Rio Torres as well as a little bit uphill along a main road. “Only” means in this case about one and a half kilometres – and that after the long flight, which we are still exhausted from.
The path was worth waiting for us and a true oasis with a lot of green and a small stream surrounded the city. We are also most of the time alone in the paddock, so we can watch the colourful butterflies in peace.
After a rather dull morning the sun is now also going through more and more, so that the butterflies are active and foraging.
Of course there must not miss the Blue Morpho, the best known butterfly in Costa Rica. Only allow photography he does not want to correct. So we said Yvonne at least. For either he flies in a zigzag course from one plant to another, without that you could follow him with the camera, or now works for the wings as soon as he sits. Thus single dead specimens are skewered, and finally end up at x Albums. As a result, I hope I have just found such a Morpho, which was apparently attached to a piece of wood. It was only when I want to show it to Annette, I realise that he probably was still alive...
